Obituary of Ada Blew

Grandma was born in Elmvale, Ontario on October 14, 1919. She was the third child of Ed and Grace Doonan. In 1928 the Doonan family settled in the Dawson Creek area. Grandma grew up in a large family of ten sisters and four brothers. She received most of her education at the Landry School, and then stayed with "Old Aunt Kate" to receive her high school education in Dawson Creek. Grandma and Grandpa Blew were married in 1942 and within seven years had five children. They lived in Pouce Coupe, Maintenance camps along the Alaska Highway, Trutch and Haines Junction. In 1951 Grandma and Grandpa moved back to the Landry district. In 1964 Tami joined the family. If Grandma had a passion it would have to be horses, and she could ride with the best of them. Her first and favourite horse was Tony, and she had him for 27 years. In the mid sixties, she purchased Chico. She rode him many miles including trail rides and of course in the Fall Fair Parades. As far as fondness for her horses went, Chico must have ranked right up there with Tony, since she had his horse shoes bronzed. Being the horsewoman that she was, she stayed active in riding and breaking until she was about 70 years young. Grandma, Grandpa and Tami left the farm in Landry in 1971 and moved into town. They spent 2 - 3 winters in Arizona, traveling back and forth in her little white and orange 1972 Pinto. When Grandpa passed away she bought a Scamper motor home and hit the road. She took in most of the local rodeos, and had several other excursions to many different destinations. In 1971 she took up reflexology and tickled many toes to end up with all of those $2 bills in the top drawer of her desk. In 1978 Grandma met Max Scott and spent over 20 years together enjoying each other and were able to share a love of animals and travelling. They had many animals including a budgie, dogs and horses. They also travelled together in their camper van including trips to Arizona and up the Alaska Highway. Gramma passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 and was laid to rest in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery. Grandma will be remembered by her children Bill (Daphne), Ed (Judy), Bob (May), Harry (Pat), Judy (Ron) and Tami; many grand children and great grand children; her siblings Mary Wessel, Ina McQueen, Jean Babcock, Glen Doonan, Rose Howard, Doris Norden and Rhoda Beauchamp. She was predeceased by her husband Howard, grandson Jimmy Blew; great granddaughter Madisyn Blew; good friend Max Scott; parents Ed and Grace Doonan; Brothers Bert, Jim, Jack; sisters Jessie Harrod, Myrtle Hamilton, Audrey Therrien, Kay Espe. Eulogy by grandson Clint Loiselle The family hosted a Celebration of Life tea for Ada on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Rotary Manor.
