Marlene Pearson

Obituary of Marlene Pearson

Marlene Mildred Pearson was born at the old Jack Nelson, also known as Tatlow place on December 25, 1941. She enjoyed that she would get a birthday present and Christmas present. Marlene went to North Rolla School to grade 5 or 6 then to Doe River to grade 9 and in Dawson Creek for grade 10. She quit school and worked at the Credit Union. Marlene married Maurice (Sam) Pearson in 1959 and had four boys. She was a stay at home mom until the boys left for school. Marlene worked at School District 59 as a teacher's aide for 35 years. She liked curling, ball games and sports in general. She loved to dance. Marlene loved to garden and take care of her house and yard. The boys said Marlene was the discipliner because Sam was always at work. You can imagine with four boys there was always something. One day they were sent to get their own whipping stick. Marty came back with a 4 inch pole, likely thinking she couldn't handle it well. Kerry came with a new red willow that really snapped, Darwin a dried twig, and Darcy with a small sliver of a stick. Guess what Marlene used - the red willow they said it really smarted. Marty said one day Marlene was going to show them how to ride a horse because she said she was a good rider and she was going to teach them something. She went and caught the fat Morgen horse that was never rode. Bridle her up. They went to the corner she lined the boys, climbed on, trotted about 10 feet and fell off. She promptly got back on, went 10 more feet, fell off the other side. Marlene was terrified of mice and bugs. One day Marty found a dead mouse in the front yard. He knocked on the door, told Marlene he had a surprise for her dangling the dead mouse. She went back in the house, slammed the door and locked it. Marty had to stay out until dad came home. Keith said one morning Marlene was hollering and yelling "there's a squirrel in the house". She was chasing the squirrel through every room with a broom and dust pan. Keith held open the door and out it went. Marlene was predeceased by her dad Jim; son Kerry; Sam; mother Milly; brother Clarence. She will be fondly remembered by her partner Keith; their combined families and friends. Marlene passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010 in Dawson Creek, BC at the age of 68 years. A memorial service was held Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 1:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel; Pauline Haycock officiated; interment followed in the Shearerdale Cemetery.
