Obituary of Evelyn Kreuzinger

Evelyn Elizabeth Kreuzinger was born in Tomslake on April 2, 1944, to Franz and Stephane Kuttig. Evelyn grew up on the family farm. She attended school in Tomslake , Tupper and Dawson Creek. In her teens she was active in the 4-H movement. She furthered her education by attending Mactavish College, in Edmonton, Alberta. On one of her visits home, she became good friends with Herbert Kreuzinger and realized that Tomslake had something Edmonton did not. Four years later, Evelyn and Herb got married. And so began her life as a wife, mother, oma, farmer, farm accountant, lunch maker and numerous other volunteer positions in the community. Two of the greatest joys of Evelyn's life was when Brian and Janet were born. Her family was now complete. Family was very important to her. Evelyn was affectionately known as "Evie" by most of the older people in the community. While Brian and Janet were students at Tate Creek Elementary School, Evelyn became very involved with the PTA, volunteering for school trips and picnics. She was instrumental in initiating the hot lunch program, was a judge at many science fairs and 4-H public speaking competitions. Evelyn's devotion and commitment to our local school was recognized in 1989 by the PTA when they honoured her with a distinct service award trophy. She was very active in our local community hall working in the kitchen or at the door, making potato salad or schnitzel for which she got many compliments. She was also involved in the South Peace Dairy Producers Association and the International Agricultural Exchange Program. Evelyn enjoyed her community and all the social activities that went with it like bazaars, craft shows, fairs and parades. She was a fan of country music and looked forward to the Night of Country Sounds. Charlie Pride, Jim Reeves and Pat Boone were her favourites. Throughout the year there were family traditions that Evelyn looked forward to, especially the Christmas baking sessions in which she would mass produce apple strudels, the sauerkraut making sessions and the gallons of milk that were churned to produce pounds of butter when milk production peaked in summer. Evelyn convinced Herb to leave the farm and accompany her on vacation to Hawaii once. She visited Norway on two occasions and also traveled to California. She made several trips to Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and the Okanagan. Evelyn thoroughly enjoyed traveling. Evelyn is survived by husband Herb; son Brian (Julie); daughter Janet (Torgrim); grandchildren Tristan, Brayden, Shelby, Emma; brother Rudy; brothers in law Erhard (Bernice), Gerald (Marlene); sister in law Linda; nieces Wendy, Corrine; nephew Walter; and several cousins. She is predeceased by her parents Franz and Stephane Kuttig; mother and father in law Walter and Frieda Kreuzinger; brother in law Harry Fister. A memorial service was held on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 2:00pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Pauline Haycock officiated. Interment was held in the Tomslake Cemetery.
