Obituary of Adolphe Jimmy Courtereille

Jimmy was born July 3, 1954 in Fort Vermilion, Alberta. He is a son to the late Sam Courtereille and Florence Noskye. Jimmy made his way to Dawson Creek about 35 years ago and made it his home. Jimmy was always easy going, gentle, and carefree. Jimmy's door was always open to anybody who needed a place to stay. He would never turn anyone away. Friends often gathered at Jimmy's to share in conversation and friendship. Jimmy would often refer to himself as "Hit Man" or "Bush Man" and then he would pound his fists on his chest and laugh. Very early most mornings, you would see Jimmy walking with his back pack. He could put miles on in a day and then do it all over again the next day. About 15 years ago Jimmy was hired as a packer for a Seismic Company and he was packing for a much younger Saw Hand and this did not really sit right with him. Jimmy kept telling the Saw Hand "You should be packing for me you are younger". Then one day the boss got called on the radio and he had to come referee a fight between Jimmy and the young Saw Hand. Growing up my Uncle would always call me Ricky. I would tell him "Uncle I am not Ricky I am Ray". I tried forever to make him get it straight but as soon as he wanted my attention he would call "Ricky" again. It did not matter if it were days or years he always called me Ricky, he never called me Ray. Jimmy was involved with the Outreach Program where he was instantly embraced for his kindness, respect and humour. He was always a pleasure to help and he was very respectful and thankful even if he did not really agree with all the conditions. Jimmy held a very special bond for Barbara Napio. When Barbara was called home to the Lord, Jimmy was heartbroken. He spoke of Barbara often and talked of his admiration for her and that now she was in a better place with the Creator. Jimmy has now gone on the meet with Barbara and the Creator. Jimmy passed away suddenly after a brief illness on Saturday January 9, 2010 in the Dawson Creek Hospital. Jimmy was predeceased by his parents Sam Courtereille and Florence Noskye. He leaves to mourn extended family, nephews, nieces, cousins and many special friends. A funeral mass was held on January 14, 2010 at the Notre Dame Catholic Church at 1:00pm, Fr. Tom Magusin, O.M.I. officiated; interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery.
