Obituary of Lorne Gauthier
I had a hard time putting all of my grandpa's good traits into writing. No matter how hard I try, I can never do justice to what he overcame in his lifetime, from learning to read and write at 60, to overcoming language barriers.
I know we are all grieving today for we all lost a great man. But I know wherever he is now he's happy and content with what he left us. He was family to all of us, whether by blood or community. I'm sure each and every one of you here today has something to share on how my grandfather was a part your life.
Lawrence Harvey Gauthier was born on May 4, 1930 in Rio Grande Alberta. He was my Grandma Mary's partner from 1948 until she passed away in 2002. He met and married Julie Kaminecki in 2006. He had 10 children; Stella, Virgie, Marlene, Darcy, Betty, Herbert, Norma, Lorna, Vince, and Marion. He worked in numerous jobs, but mainly as a Guide and Trapper. Lorne, as he was known to all, loved to be outdoors and with his horses. He was known by many as a Horse Whisperer. He also participated in many rodeos in his younger years. He was a Chuckwagon Driver, and a Roman Standing racer, and according to most people he usually took 1st prize. He liked to make people laugh and always had a kind word to say. He also loved to dance. You could always count on my Grandpa to be the first one on the dance floor, jigging and two stepping to his heart's content. He also enjoyed his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He always had a funny story about everyone in the family, and was quick to share his laughter.
Although he never got the chance, I think in his own way he was able to show us how important we all were to him. We may no longer see him but we'll always have these special memories we shared with him and he will always have a special place in our hearts.
