Allan Greene

Obituary of Allan Lawrence Greene

Mr. Allan Lawrence Greene of Farmington passed away with his family by his side on December 20, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. Allan was born in Edmonton March 9, 1947 and grew up on the family farm near Thorsby, AB. After leaving school he worked for a short time doing road construction, then started his life career and love with the oil patch. He drilled oil and gas wells all over BC, Alberta and the Northwest Territories, receiving many safety awards. Allan was drilling on a Bawden rig in Virginia Hills in 1985 when Norm Hanson came to work for him and introduced his sister Linda to Allan. Allan then moved to spend the next 25 years on the farm in the Sweetwater area of Farmington with Linda and being a father to the girls he called his own, Terri, Lori and Shauna. He worked very hard with landscaping and building their house into the home and yard of which he was so proud. He left the rigs in 1990 so he could be closer to his family and started operating and maintaining oil and gas wells and plant sites in the BC and Alberta Peace area. In 2004 Allan and Linda opened the successful Greenehouse at Farmington. He continued operating wells with his own company, Sweetwater Ventures Ltd. while supporting the greenhouse business and being it's best salesman. He also had a passion for reading newspapers every day so he could keep up with daily news, politics and the oil patch, and then talk shop with everyone he met. Many knew Allan as an easy man to start a conversation, but a hard man to end one! After getting sick in July, 2009 Allan and Linda closed The Greenehouse in order to spend time this time together. Allan was able to sit and enjoy the deck and yard with his family. He was so proud of the successes and accomplishments of his wife and girls. Linda is very thankful they had this time together; they were able to laugh, cry and most importantly, say goodbye. Allan will be so missed and is survived by his loving family of the last 25 years - wife Linda, daughters Terri (Brian) Crocker of Bonanza AB, Lori Sandnes of Vancouver BC, Shauna (Jack) Frederick of Irricana AB, grandchildren Blayre, Brenna and Blain Crocker. He is also survived by his mother, Millie Green of Warburg, AB, son Darwin Greene of Edmonton, daughter Bernadette (Wally) Lee of Leduc, grandchildren Nathan and Adrian Potts, Beverly and Jonathan Greene, sister Eileen Saubak of Leduc, brother Robert (Linda) Green of Calgary, as well as nieces and nephews, over 100 cousins, and many oilpatch friends. He was predeceased by his father Gordon Green in 1997. A Celebration of Allan's life was held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. At Reynar's Funeral Chapel. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Allan to the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation.
