Henri Dussault

Obituary of Henri Dussault

First, it is an honour for me to share the family memories of Henri - thank you to the family for asking me. Dad was born September 27, 1931, at his parent's home near Paynton, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest child of eight. At the age of 5 months Dad's mother became ill and passed away. Dad, along with his brother Louis, went to live with Adrian and Auralie Vermette. They became his parents and our grandparents. Dad met the love of his life Agnes at a dance in Edam. They were married on July 5, 1954. What Henri didn't realize was that when he married Agnes, her 5 year old sister (me) was part of the bargain. I think I actually didn't move in with them until they had been together for at least 4 or 5 days! Their first years of married life were spent in Saskatchewan, Dad worked at various jobs; farming, mechanic and later working at the dam in Outlook in the construction field. Soon they started their family. First 4 girls; Pauline, Suzanne, Laurette and Dianne; then finally a son, Raymond and then one more girl; Gisele. In 1966 Dad decided to seek better employment and packed up and moved to Dawson Creek to work on the Bennett Dam. Agnes and family followed in 1967. This move proved to be one of their best decisions as they both loved BC AND guess what? I followed them and moved in with them again, this time with a husband in tow. Henri never could escape 'this little sister'. In September 1971, their family was completed by the birth of their seventh child. David was the 'Apple' of Dad's eye and for the first time Dad got to spend more time at home and be part of raising him, spending happy times taking him to his hockey games. In December of 1996, Dad became Mom's caregiver and continued until May 1998 when she passed away leaving him lost and lonely. After a lengthy battle with cancer, Dad passed away peacefully on September 13, 2009. Henri is survived by his 7 children, Pauline (Gyle), Suzanne (Gordon), Laurette (Jim), Dianne (Vern), Raymond (Cheryl), Gisele (Tim), & David (Sarah); 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, his brothers Jerry and Louis and sister Aurore, and many many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Aristide and Angeline, his foster parents Adrian and Auralie, three brothers, Lucien, Emile and Eugene, one sister, Cecile and his granddaughter Sarah Mickelson. Dad, Henri, for those of us who knew and loved you, we will miss you and we'll never forget you. Rest in peace. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Notre Dame Catholic Church, Fr. Michael Anyasoro officiated. Interment followed in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery. Eulogy presented by: Yvonne Becotte Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium, Dawson Creek, B.C.
