Nellie Brown

Obituary of Nellie Brown

Nellie was born on July 8, 1943, in Calgary, Alberta to Joseph and Grace Derowin and was one of eleven siblings. She met and married her loving husband, Ben, in Calgary, 47 years ago. Nellie was the proud mother of four children, Ben Jr., Donna, Valerie and predecease by an infant son Bobbie. They moved to Dawson Creek and bought their 2 acre farm. Nellie had many talents that some did not know. She was first a mother, wife, school bus driver, waitress and a jack of all trades. She was even a carpenter. When they bought Jonny and Marie Hogan's property, she was going to make forms for the new house they were building. Nellie went down into the basement hole and began making forms because the cement truck was coming that day. A friend that was doing the forms looked and laughed. Nellie looked up and handed him the level and hold him where is it not level. He was astonished because he couldn't find anything wrong with what was there. There was always something to do when you went visiting, like killing chickens. What an experience when you come from Calgary, the big city, and guess what's for dinner…Chicken. Nellie was a very proud grandmother. All of her grandbabies meant the world to her. I've never seen such a good grandma. She loved country and western music. She used to say "Willie Nelson could eat crackers in my bed anytime". She received a phone call from Daniel O'Donlad just days before she passed. That was the thrill of her life. Last year Nellie and Ben went on a trip across the US and Canada, she was always happy to talk of her adventure and her lifelong dream. What a life, she was cruising and loving it! Nellie passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009 in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 66 years. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 2:00pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Bev Dunsmore officiated. Interment will be held at a later date. Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium, Dawson Creek, B.C.
