Obituary of Beatrice McKellar
Beatrice Loretta (Cuthbert) McKellar, a long time pioneer of the Peace Country, passed away on July 23, 2009 at the age of 91 year.
Bea came to Dawson Creek in 1926. She was courted by Alex McKellar and got married in minus 6 weather on December 26, 1934. Bea and Alex raised 4 children; Joyce, Bernice, Earl & Keith. They moved to Dawson Creek in 1952.
Bea loved to knit, sew, do handicrafts and make her own clothes. To her, this was a great joy. She worked for 18 years at the Bay in the dry goods department, retiring in 1974. Many will remember the local radio ads to "see Bea at the Bay for all your sewing needs".
After her retirement, Bea and Alex travelled across Canada, Hawaii, England, Scotland and into the USA. Camping with family and friends was always first on the list.
Bea was predeceased by her parents, husband; Alex and Daughter; Joyce. She is survived by 3 children, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to granddaughter, Brenda Radke (Armstrong) and husband Russell and to Barb & John Querin for their care and kindness to Bea over the years, especially in her last days. Thank you to Ruth and George Graham, Danny and Tracy Haugen, the nursing staff at Rotary Manor and Pouce Coupe Care Centres and to Dr. Botha. A special thank you to Chris Broad, palliative care volunteer.
A celebration of Bea's life will be held on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Dawson Creek Senior Citizen's Hall.
Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium, Dawson Creek, B.C.
