Obituary of George Honey Widdicombe

George Honey Widdicombe, born to John and June Widdicombe on Tuesday, January 2, 1917 in Foxwarren, Manitoba and went to sleep in Jesus on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in Whitecourt, Alberta at the age of 92. George was the 7th child of 11 children that were born to John and June - topping the scales at 11 pounds. As a boy, George entered early into partnership with his brother's operating a trap line on the way to school. Furs sold for 50 cents and the meat was worth 5 cents. This partnership continued to grow until George and his brothers established "Honour Lee Farms" raising short horned purebreds. These champion purebreds won many prizes. George and Evelyn Low were married on January 15, 1951, shortly after they both were baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. While in Manitoba, the couple had 5 of their 6 children. In 1957, the partnership with George and his brothers dissolved. George and his family moved to Lamming Mills, British Columbia to work on a farm. In 1959 the family moved once again to Lacombe, Alberta where George and Evelyn purchased a ½ section of land along the shores of Gull Lake. While in Lacombe, the last of George and Evelyn's 6 children were born. George worked hard to provide a Christian education for all of his children. In 1978, George and Evelyn purchased 3 quarters of land in the Fourth Creek District, 40 miles west of Spirit River, Alberta. Since moving to Spirit River, George has been a faithful member of the Dawson Creek Seventh-day Adventist Church where he was an active member serving as a Deacon and Elder. As George looked back over the years, he was grateful to the Lord for providing so well for his family and the 59 years of marriage to Evelyn. George enjoyed spending time with his 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. George enjoyed his garden and even though his eye sight was failing, one would be hard pressed to find a weed in it. George, throughout his life, believed in natural healing and he could be found collecting herbs to aid him through the Alberta winters. George had a strong faith in the Lord that sustained him through his life, especially during the pain of his final days. George had the hope of Christ's soon coming and it was his desire to see all of you when Jesus comes again. George was predeceased by his son; Harold Widdicombe and Grandson; Ernie Guillet. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; Evelyn, daughters; Leslie (Don) Price and Laurell Crocker, Son's; Neil (Dianne) Widdicombe, John (Cheryl) Widdicombe, Bill (Melinda) Widdicombe, Daughter-in-law; Linda Widdicombe, 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service was held on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 11:00 am from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Pastor Rudy Harnisch officiated, interment was held on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery in Chetwynd, B.C.
