Obituary of Pauline Shields

Margaret Pauline Shields passed away peacefully at the Chetwynd Hospital on March 24, 2009 at the age of 81. Pauline, the fourth child of five, was born in Aylesford, Nova Scotia to James and Sophia Holland, (nee Sanford). On December 18, 1927. She graduated as an R.N. at the Victoria Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She served in the Canadian Forces Medical Services at the 4th Fighter Wing in Europe and RCAF Stn Comox. Pauline met and married Roger in 1964 when they were both officers at RCAF Stn Comox. The family moved to Chetwynd in 1970 and Pauline became one of the first employees of the Chetwynd Hospital that opened in 1971. She started as Head Nurse and in 1980 was promoted to Director of Nursing, then retired in 1992. Pauline liked to cook, especially Seafood Chowder, (sherry included) for New Years Day. Above all she loved fishing and hockey. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Roger, sons Colin (Holly), Douglas (Melanie), sisters Peggy Blakley (Herb), Gwen Marshall (Alec) and brother Douglas and granddaughter Paige. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Russell and sister-in-law Barbara. Her ashes will be wafted at Peggy's Cove, N.S., Bijou Falls, B.C. and her favorite fishing hole south of Chetwynd, B.C. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Pauline to the Chetwynd Hospital Foundation. With respect to Pauline's wishes no formal funeral service will be held.
