Obituary of Mavis Marie Huhn

Mavis Marie Huhn was born January 17th, 1936 in Hythe, Alberta, the second daughter of Tom and Florence Bulmer. She lived in the Hythe area until the mid 50's when she moved to Fort St. John, BC. She remained in Fort St. John until her passing on September 22nd, 2007 at the age of 71. She married Art Huhn on March 31, 1959 in Beaverlodge This union of 37 years produced 5 children and 9 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father Tom, son Darwyn, grandson Jeffrey, step-father Pat Ivor, husband Art, her sister & brother in law, Laverne and Raymond Fowler. She will be lovingly missed by her mother Florence Ivor, her children and their families, Linda and John , Janice, Cody and Nancy Gibos; Pat Huhn & Lianne Gordon, Kale, Breanne and Kerri; Arlene Huhn & Patrick Hallonquist and Nolan; Corrine and Steven, Matthew and Ryan Burke; and many extended family and friends. Mom was a very strong person and she showed her strength in many ways. As a teenager she was sent to Edmonton to face the potentially deadly disease TB. She lived in a Sanatorium and was isolated except for the other patients. Five years ago, mom was diagnosed with Lymphoma and her cancer was very aggressive. Her strength truly showed as she fiercely battled this disease. Mom had her own unique way of fighting her cancer. She lived in the present and each time her cancer went into remission she considered herself cured and never expected it to come back. When it did come back, she treated each time like it was her first, she never complained and never asked "why me". Mom enjoyed fishing, camping & traveling. We remember having to pick berries of all sorts. Then mom would turn the berries into jams, jellies, syrups and pies. She also canned fruit and she often did peaches for her grandchildren. She spent many days and nights playing cards with her mother, grandmother, aunts and later her children and grandchildren. Mom also enjoyed a good game of BINGO, and as Casino's became more popular in our area, mom occasionally donated to the local economy. One of the biggest memories that all of us and many of you will remember is how mom ruled her home. Her door was open to anyone, some stayed for a night, others for a lot longer. We will miss so much about her and we know all of you will too. We love you mom and always will.
