Obituary of Gordon Arnie Arneson

Gordon Arneson was born on June 12th, 1935 in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Our father grew up in the small town of Sexsmith, Alberta with his younger sister Hilda in the days of the first black and white TV, and when the mail would come in by snow jet. After finishing his grade 13 tech and his police academy training, he moved to Dawson Creek where he charmed a blue-eyed waitress at the coffee shop where he went for lunch. After courting this sweet girl, he proposed and they started their family. They moved to Watson Lake and met another couple who they partnered with to run a café and a garage for 2 years. They moved to Whitehorse for a short time where he worked in the Anvil copper mines. Their next destination was Dawson Creek and then Chetwynd, where Gordon worked for the ministry of highways. Gordon and his family lived in Chetwynd for 34 years. We sat together all sharing our thoughts on Dad's memory and influence on our lives. His uniqueness and character surfaced in each of us. It was as though he was there. Our dad was extremely intelligent and a kind, loving man. His intelligence amazed us. He supported us in all of our life choices. He spent his time wisely, mostly on intelligent things. Dad accepted everyone as they were. He would also lend a hand to those in need through the years, but we learned to agree to disagree and still say I love you. While he portrayed a tough, stern exterior, the though of his children or grandchildren suffering through uncontrollable circumstances, knowing it was beyond his control brought a tear to his eye. Plain and simple, what mom always said, is the way dad liked things. This was true when it came to fussing over him and the way he lived his life. He wanted family and friends around for good food and good drink, his comfort was taking care of others. Hunting, fishing, camping, travelling, on holidays…from sunrise to sunset, looking for the next waterfall, river or creek to goldpan in. In my father's words "hey, this is living ain't it Renie baby" and she would always agree. Dad, was a quiet, peaceful man who though nothing of giving all he had and even giving up what he needed to help anyone. Friend or stranger. Memories of our dad will live on in our hearts that were touched by his faith in God and a life well-lived. We love you dad! Eulogy presented by Gordon's son; Doug Arneson Gordon Arneson passed away on October 31st, 2007 in Dawson Creek, B.C. at the age of 72 years. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, November 7th, at 2:00 pm at the Baptist Church in Chetwynd, B.C. Pastor Bill Evans officiated; interment will be at a later date. Memorial arrangements were under the care of Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium.
