Obituary of Glennis Oates

Our mom was born in Lance Cove, Bell Island Newfoundland to Vincent and Marjorie Bickford on February 12, 1950. She grew up in Bell Island with her grandmother and other family. She spent most of her life there until she met our father, Winston Oates. Pregnant with two children in tow (Allan & Lori) she left Newfoundland and moved to Alberta for the hopes and promise of a better life. Shortly after they arrived, she gave birth to a baby girl (Janet). Janet was just a little over a year and a half before she gave birth to yet another baby girl (April). As the years went on she had various jobs, but nothing seemed to make her happier than taking care of her family. She then decided to be a 'stay at home mom'. The years went by quickly and we all grew up and had families of our own. She had 12 grandchildren… there was always more than enough love to go around. She was the only person who could get all of her grandchildren to smile or laugh for the first time. Just seeing the glow in her eyes when she held each grand baby for the first time, you would think she had just had them herself. The love she felt for them only got stronger as the years passed by. She has left all of them with very fond memories. She spent her life taking care of people. She loved being around her family, although at times her family was the hardest to be around. She was the strongest, most determined, bravest woman to ever walk this earth. When she found out the devastating news that eventually ended her life, she had a smile on her face and worried about whether we were going to be alright. She was the most loving person in the world. She was the kind of person who you wanted to take home with you because she had so much love and energy about her. She is going to be missed tremendously by her family and friends and all who knew her. She is in God's garden now, walking along side of him, smiling down on us, still making sure that all is right down here. So let's not shed tears of mourning, but tears of joy because she's at rest now and no longer in pain. And no matter how much we hurt, we have to know that that's what she would have wanted. Eulogy presented by: Glynis' son Allan Oates Glynis passed away on December 3rd, 2007 in Dawson Creek, B.C. at the age of 57 years. A memorial service was held on December 7th, 2007 at 11:00 am from Reynars Funeral Chapel Rev. Marilyn Carroll and Bernadette Levesque officiated, interment will be at a later date. Memorial arrangements were under the care of Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium, Dawson Creek, B.C.
