Ilene Meise

Obituary of Ilene Meise

Ilene was born September 22nd 1937 in Smeaton Saskatchewan. She passed away January 31, 2008 in Watson Lake, YT. A funeral service was held on February 7, 2008 at 11:00 am from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Pastor Gordon Warriner officiated, interment was held in the Mountain View Cemetery, Groundbirch, B.C. Ilene was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Velma Idler, she is survived by her loving husband, Fred, her children, Fay (Dan), Shannon (Dale), Lyle (Barb), Simone (Vance), 12 grandchildren and 16 great - grandchildren. Mom had a very private past, so we don't know much about her early years. We know that she was born with beautiful thick - curly ringlets, until her younger brother Billy cut them off. Later in life when she was struggling through her Chemo treatments, she prayed that she could keep her hair…I think the good Lord must have been listening. Some of mom's favourite things to do were, listening to music, singing and dancing (she would get dad on the dance floor for as many as she could), berry picking, teaching Sunday School and taking care of children. As long as I can remember mom always had children around her, if she wasn't taking care of us kids, she would have been taking care of the neighbours children or her nieces and nephews. In 1975, dad's job took him North to Lower Post, B.C. When he saw his job would last longer than he anticipated, he moved mom up with him, as he also saw a need for her to take care of the children of that community. I don't know if mom knew that she would eventually be looking after up to 30 children at a time. This was in a small three room home overflowing with people of all ages, just as mom liked it. When the Cassiar mine closed, dad built a house for mom in Watson Lake, Yukon. She finally had a place to unpack all her ornaments, knickknacks and trinkets and a place to plant her flowers outside. Mom loved living in Watson Lake where she knew everyone and everyone knew her! Mom always stayed active. Her and dad made many friends and found lots of fun things to do at the senior's center in Watson Lake. Mom participated in all the activities that the seniors had planned for the month. They also took a train trip along the Skagway, something that they wanted to do for many years. Throughout the past few months, mom held onto her faith in God, and stayed true to her love of the children and all those she loved dearly especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all her step-children and their children. Her pain and sufferings are gone the Lord gave her wings to fly where she can have peaceful dreams. Eulogy Presented By: Shannon Anderson Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium.
