Obituary of Elizabeth Loiselle

Elizabeth Loiselle - a regal name for one of the most dignified women that most of us will ever know. A first-class lady who was always the picture of elegance and grace who could easily be envisioned as the heroine in a classical Victorian novel. Not a hair out of place nails immaculate, make-up perfect, and all polished off with the scent of White Shoulders. This image of a proper lady with a penchant for all things feminine and British, stands out against the pioneering and ranching lifestyle that she led for most of her adult life. Elizabeth Emily Cowley was born in 1922 in Fort William, now known as Thunder Bay, Ontario. She was the first-born child to Evelyn and William Cowley. At the age of 5, Elizabeth moved with her family out west in a model T-Ford with a trailer behind. After spending a year in Cochrane, Alberta, her family settled in Willow Valley, just northwest of Dawson Creek In 1940, at the age of 18, Elizabeth married Paul Loiselle in Dawson Creek. They met at a dance at Kilkerran hall near Dawson Creek when Grandma was 16 years old. Elizabeth went on to be the matriarch of a large 10-child family. Elizabeth was mother to: Vivianna, Vernon, Gary, Kenny, Diane, Teddy, Art, Randy, Darla, and Troy. Grandma lived a very full and rich family-life: regular large family dinners at the ranch, Catholic mass on Sundays, collecting fresh milk and eggs from their own animals, sewing and knitting, and being integrally involved in the great success of her husband's company Loiselle Transport. Determined to live strong and free, Grandma lived her golden years filled with passion and adventure. One of her lifetime dreams was to visit the homeland of her forefathers, Ireland, Scotland and England. In a handwritten thank-you note to Vivianna, Grandma writes that that trip was, quote: …my dream come true. I have always prayed for the chance to walk on the ground of that famous place and where my Dad once walked. My grandma Elizabeth was a woman who was determined to live life to its fullest, to experience everything that this life had to offer: the highs, the lows, the dark and the light, grief and joy; grandma experienced it all. And if we believe that life is eternal, then we expect that grandma's journey continues. And I am sure that she will embrace her next journey with the same inquisitiveness, sense of adventure and passion that will be the hallmarks of her legacy from her journey here with us. Eulogy Presented By: Granddaughter Tamara Loiselle - Neilson A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at 12:00 pm at the Notre Dame Catholic Church. Fr. Michael Anyasoro officiated. The Funeral Cortege made its way by the Loiselle Ranch on the way to the interment in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.
