Obituary of John Kenneth Young

Fondly known to all as Jack Young, John Kenneth Young was born in Hannah, Alberta on December 31, 1926, to Cecil and Dorothy Young, he was the second oldest of six children. Jack was predeceased by his baby sister Alma in 1930, his mother Dorothy in 1971, his dad Cecil in 1983, two nephews; Lane in 1982 and Les in 1988, and his older brother Bert passed away on November 28, 2007. Jack bought his first truck in 1948 and hauled lumber from his dad's sawmill just south of Groundbirch. Shortly after was the first time Jack seen Joyce Berg. She was 16 years old and the prettiest girl he had ever seen. He knew the moment he saw her that she would be his girl and she knew he would be her handsome prince. After a lengthy courtship of over three years, Jack asked Joyce to be his wife. Joyce said yes, and the rest is history. John arrived in 1952, Clifford in 1955, Ronald in 1958, Russell in 1959, and finally their daughter Laurie in 1963. They built their first home in Dawson Creek in 1956. Jack continued to haul lumber and Joyce raised the kids. In 1971 Jack and Joyce and family moved to Chetwynd because that's where Jack was working. Jack continued to haul logs and purchase trucks. At one point all four sons were driving for him. Jack never wore a watch. If the boys ask "What time is it?" they got the standard answer "Doesn't matter, we're working till we're done!" Jack and Joyce loved having their grandchildren nearby and would often take them on shopping trips where they would have a lovely time, get spoiled, and returned home to their parents. Jack was best known for his booming voice, his infectious smile, and his big bear hugs. He was a mischievous character and loved to play jokes on anybody. Jack was a workaholic, but he also enjoyed gardening and carpentry. He was a man of many projects and famous for getting several started at the same time. Some of his most memorable vacations with family were to Hawaii, The Rose Bowl Parade, Eastern Canada, Disneyland, the Grand Canyon, and Nashville. Jack will be remembered as a wonderful husband, a father that was the strength of the family, a fun loving grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his wife Joyce of 57 years of marriage, their five children, fifteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother Bill, sister Joan, brother Larry, and a huge extended family. Jack passed away on May 14, 2008 in Chetwynd, B.C. at the age of 81 years. A Memorial Service was held on May 22, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Chetwynd. Pastor Bill Evans officiated. Interment will be at a later date. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium.
