Betty Graham

Obituary of Betty Graham

Betty was born on April 13, 1934 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, first born daughter to Lillian Green. She worked at the Palace Hotel, Windsor, Park Hotel, Dawson Hotel, and Kresge's lunch counter as a waitress. She was known for her excellent waitressing skills and always made sure that people got fed whether they could pay for the meal or not. While working at the Park Hotel she met John Graham and soon after they were married. Betty is best known for being a hard worker, her determination, strong will (translation - stubbornness), independence, directness, honesty and most of all, her fearlessness. At the same time she was also well respected and admired because of these qualities. Betty was a woman who was full of compassion and was always there to listen and lend a helping hand, when needed. She served the community as a school bus driver for 23 years, 1976 - 1999. In her down time from driving bus, she was involved in Brownies and belonged on a bowling team. Did we mention her love for the colour red? She wore red and consequently so did the children. The living room consisted of a red rug, sectional couch (with a corner swivel bar), lamps, and accessories. Betty also loved cars, each one was new to her and she treated all of them as a new car. She washed, waxed, and vacuumed the interior on a regular basis. There was always room for an extra place setting at the table. Grandkids could always find a stash of assorted candies in her end tables and soda in the fridge and the freezer was plum full of frozen goodies. Mom loved her pets, dogs and cats; her most recent dog Sassy. She also looked after many pets belonging to family members such as fish, frogs, and birds. She often straightened the pets out the same way she did with her kids; with an open heart. When Betty was trying not to worry about what her adult children were up to, she focused on her grandchildren. Being as they were a very big, big part of her life. She was always available at a moment's notice to help with any shall we call "Grandmother related duties." Betty was predeceased by her mother; Lillian, brother; Earl Rennie and stepfather Percy Green. She is survived by her three daughters; Sharon, Angie, and Jackie, one son Gordon, and father of their children John Graham, also left are 8 grandchildren; Michelle, Ryan, Nathan, Mitchell, Kolby, Brianna, Kane, and Megan. A Celebration of Betty's life was held on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 1:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel, Bev Dunsmore officiated. Interment will be held at a later date.
