Edmund Cardinal

Obituary of Edmund Cardinal

Edmund Cardinal was born on February 17, 1931 to Alphonse and Eliza Cardinal. He was the second youngest of 8 children. Edmund was "the trapper" as a young man. At 12 years old, he shot his first moose, a big accomplishment for a native boy entering manhood. His Father Alphonse was a talented fiddle player. He passed down his talent to Edmund and he learned and loved to play the fiddle like his Father. In his younger days he would play along side his Father on almost a daily basis. In the early 1950's Edmund moved to Dawson Creek B.C. looking to find work in lumber camps. While here, he developed another passion…Bronc riding and in 1951 this skill won him 1'st place. In 1959 Edmund moved back to Alberta. There he met his life long partner Alice Strong from Grouard, Alberta. They had 48 years together, which brought them 8 children, numerous Grandchildren and just as many Great grandchildren. Edmund worked for Buchannan lumber for 14 years while living in High Prairie, he then moved to Paddle Prairie for a while, then back on to Dawson Creek B.C., where he lived for the last 26 years. Edmund loved to tinker with cars and trucks. One truck he was quite proud of was a 1973 Chevrolet he called Smokey! He also loved Bingo. Edmund passed away on Saturday, October 18th, 2008 in Dawson Creek, at the age of 77 years. Edmund is survived by his wife, Alice Strong, Children; William (Dorreen), Hazel (Darryl), Angeline (Gerald), Florence (Allan), Darryl (Clara), Glenn (Corrine), Arlene (Chris), Crystal (Jesse), 30 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
