William Farquhar

Obituary of William Alexander Farquhar

William Alexander Farquhar better known as Bill or Billy was born in Wembley, Alberta on January 14th 1937. His parents George and Molly were fresh from Elgin Scotland, Dad was the youngest of 6 sisters (Margaret, Molly, Jessie, Kathy, Georgina and Betty) and 1 Brother (Jimmy). Growing up Dad enjoyed pond hockey with his neighbors wearing old newsprint as chin pads. Around the age of 15 Dad set out to find his way, he worked in a lumber mill and was able to operate the trucks at an early age. When he finally convinced Gerard and Helen Tissington he had good intentions for their daughter Mom and Dad were married on January 12, 1959. Karol was born and the proud new parents spent a few years in Grande Prairie and then High Prairie. Gail was born in April of 1963 and Ramona one year later. The family then moved to Dawson Creek in 1965. They adopted a nice boy named Brian in 1968 and the family was complete. Running Old Dutch foods Dad and the family with all the chips and candy carved their way through years of hockey games, curling, swimming, horseshows and motor crossing. Along the way they made so many true friends and memories that Dad loved to "BS" about. He had some very tough moments in his life but one he never quite recovered from was the death of Gail in 1995 due to Cancer. It is important to remember "Bill" in the good years, teasing the kids and his laughter, telling the odd guy that they were #1. Hockey was a huge interest and a big part of his life. Dad respected his community and he and Mom gave back more than anyone I know. In the last 5 years he had many health issues and has lost a lot of his old pals but throughout it all he tried his best to make it to coffee every day if not morning and afternoon at least one. He didn't want to be a pain to anyone, he appreciated the things people did for him and he never wanted to be acknowledged for the good things he did in his life. He fought a hard fight in the end but God needed him somewhere else so he had to go. I think if he were here today his words would be "He was a good guy" Bill is survived by his wife Janet and daughters Karol (Gee Meijering), Mona (Dave McNalley) and son Brian (Lisa), grandchildren Justin, Taylor and Riley McNalley, Luciano and Alex Farquhar. He is predeceased by his Daughter Gail Farquhar, parents George and Molly and sisters, Molly, Jessie, Kathy, and Georgina. Bill passed away on November 30, 2008 at the age of 71 years. A Funeral Service was held on December 5, 2008 at St. Marks Anglican Church. Archdeacon Greg Gilson officiated. Interment will be held at a later date. Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium.
