Obituary of Dorothy Still

Dorothy Still was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick, on April 20, 1927 to Robert and Clara Malcomn. Dorothy grew up around the Calgary area. As a young lady, searching for adventure, she traveled to the Peace River Country were she met a young construction worker by the name of George Still. Together they settled in Pouce Coupe and raised three children, Georgina, Bobby, and Maxine. When George had the opportunityworking closer to home they moved to Dawson Creek and had one more child Margaret. Before any of the children were born, Dorothy traveled the Alaska Highway to be with George as he worked on building the highway. In fact she was one of the first women to drive the highway. With children starting to arrive they bought a house in Dawson Creek which still stands today. Mom went to work at a little confectionary called Jack and Jill's. When the older children had grown they moved to Mount Lemorey with their young daughter. George became Dept Highways Foreman and Dorothy cooked at the Lodge and B.C.R. camp for many years. In 1973, they moved to the Kootenys were Dorothy had two Restaurants. Upon retiring she became very involved with Painting and doing crafts. She suffered a stroke in 2003 and youngest daughter Margaret moved her back home to live with her family until the last year were she resided at the Long Term Care Home in Chetwynd until her passing. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, her husband, George, her daughters; Georgina Drouin and Maxine Lonfat, her son Bobby Still, her grandson Wayne Drouin and Companion Joe Joss. She is survived by her daughter Margie, son-in-law Gary Grant, son-in-law Dennis Lonfat, grandchildren; Alaine and Shawn Sullivan, Allan and Angie Grant, Mandy and Jarret Ray, Ed Lonfat, Sue Drouin, Jeff, Stephen and Diane Still and eleven great grandchildren and many friends. With respect to Dorothy's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held at this time. A private family interment will be held in the mountains in the spring. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Dorothy to the Chetwynd Senior Assisted Living Housing Fund Pine Valley Seniors Association.
