Duncan (Otto)
The first time I met you is so clear and vivid. I had moved to Chetwynd for a year because I could no longer be at home and my team (basketball) had come to Dawson for a weekend tournament. After our game against Central was over one of my teammates brought me to your house. When "we" walked into the house there was two boys in the kitchen with the hugest smiles on their faces, blending the first of many beverages that you and I have shared over the years. Pina Colada? you asked me. That was the beginning of one of the best friendships I have been honored to be a part of for over 31 years.
The next morning we had to play a game at 8am and you and Chris came and cheered us on......very loudly. I won a MVP award that day because of you two.
We were friends through each other relationships, births of our children, deaths of our friends, etc etc
Your infectious laughter has gotten me through many many many life lessons.
You always sided with me even when I was wrong, you protected me from trouble.
We got ourselves in trouble numerous times.
You educated me in Wayne's World and the ability to "Schwing"
"Tuesday" was always a favorite day(LOL) for you.
When I first heard that you had a monkey.....(touch my monkey) I might have been a little concerned but then you set my mind at ease when I met your monkey!!! Bahahaha
You always had that amazing grin that told me not to take the world so seriously.
Every time I listen to Anthrax or Eddie play the guitar you were not far from my thoughts. You had patience to teach me how to hacky sack (sp) and like the taste of your beverage of choice "Sasquatch pee"
You taught my daughter to play pool down in Tauras's arcade.
So many times we ran away and had go back to get your "Groo the Wanderer" comics. You came to visit me after I moved and when I heard you were in Edmonton I went looking for you.........
Our last phone conversation was never meant to be my last.
You long haired thrashing, "snapper" saying, rocked an 80's fanny pack like no other, never cared about negativity, only his family/friends, kokanee sipping, tequila slamming, black tooth grin, rollerblading, heart filled with gold.
I love you and will always keep you close to my heart.
My deepest sympathy to your family and friends. XoX

I met Duncan in the summer of '89 in Dawson Creek. He is my friend Chris's brother. I'm smiling right now thinking of the guy standing in front of me back then. That long thrasher hair, Metallica t-shirt, thrashed jeans, and the warmest smile I think I'd ever seen. He didn't know me. I had just moved to town and was living with my brother Kim and hanging out with his Tae Kwon Do pals Wade Irwin, Ray House, Chris Kiyawasew, and all those who hung around with them. I spent quite a bit of time with Chris in those days and got to be friends with Duncan as well.
All I can say about my old friend Duncan is that he taught me this:
Be good to your Mother
Don't screw your friends
Don't leave home with less than $100
Be careful of strangers
Always have fun.
Duncan appreciated friendship like no one I've ever known. If Duncan thought of you as a friend then that's what you were. I appreciated that about him most of all.
The last time I got to see Duncan was at his brother's place out by Red Deer. Chris was working so Duncan took me on a walking tour of that little town who's name eludes me right now. But we ended up walking around this little lake that I'd never had seen if it wasn't for Duncan. We laughed at his jokes, we may even have tossed back a couple Kokanee along the way. Now I'm filled with the knowledge that I don't get to enjoy his immense personality any more. But at least I got to spend that last day with him and it was a damned fine day!
For those who are reading this I am so sorry for your loss. To know Duncan was to love Duncan and I feel your pain.
I wish I could be there for Duncan's final farewell but alas I cannot. So I send my deepest regrets and my most sincere condolences to all of Duncan's family and friends. To my friend Chris I would like to remind him that he must embrace the future and not get lost in yesterdays...
My final farewell to you Duncan is to thank you for teaching us the value of friendship and reminding us to not forget our loved ones for tomorrow may not come.
Goodbye Duncan, "the ticket booth is closed....."
