Obituary of Betty Martens

Elizabeth (Betty) Martens, a longtime resident of Chetwynd, B.C. passed away quietly with her family by her side on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in Chetwynd at the age of 81 years.

Elizabeth Katherine Martens was born on August 17, 1935 in Sexsmith, Alberta. Betty was recognized for her hard work ethic, her warm loving heart and cheerful smiles. She achieved happiness by helping people; she was presented a “Citizen of the Decade” award for her valuable contributions to the community. Betty will always be remembered for her years of service working for Westgate's IGA. This is where she loved to be serving and greeting local families; looking professional in her clean, crisp white uniform. Betty was a beautiful person, a positive role model for volunteerism and community participation. Betty will be missed tremendously by her many friends and loving family.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, John Paul Martens, her parents Helen Watson and George Badger, and her sister-in-law Marilyn Badger.

Betty is survived by her sons Rod (Cheryl) and Brad Martens, her Grandson Cory (Nichole) Martens, her Granddaughters Tina (Josh) Bassett, and Marlee Martens, her brothers: Bill (Rose) Badger and Robert (Joy) Badger, along with many loving nieces and nephews and their families.

Betty’s family gathered for a graveside service on Saturday, July 1, 2017 where she was laid to rest with her husband, John, in the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery.

The Martens family would like to thank the Chetwynd Hospital and Homecare Staff for the care you have provided to our Mother and Grandmother in her time of need.
