Obituary of Grethe Smith

Celebration of Life

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom, Mormor, Farmor, GG, and friend, Grethe Smith. Grethe a resident of Chetwynd passed away on December 3, 2017 in the Chetwynd Hospital.

Grethe Dina Scheffmann was born in Copenhagen Denmark on July 8, 1934. She was the youngest of three girls born to Ditlev and Astrid Scheffmann. A Bakers daughter she could never resist fresh baked goods. Travel was also a big part of her life moving to Canada and following and marrying our Dad Jack Jensen in 1957. Two children followed Helga in 1959 and Jack in 1961. Mom later remarried to Ib Smith and lived in Denmark until his death in 1990. After his passing she came back to Canada and settled in Chetwynd. She loved this little town, her family, home and many friends she made throughout the years.

Grethe was very active in Royal Purple, Bingo, Card Night on Saturdays, and an occasional trip to the Casino in Dawson Creek.

Grethe leaves behind to mourn her Children Helga (Jim), Jack (Wendy), Grandsons Thomas (Sarah), Jonathan (Jessie), Timothy (Carmen), Jake (Sarah), Jonathan, Jordan (Josee), Eight Great Grandchildren and more coming, Sisters Birthe in Denmark, Ely in Tasmania, Ibs Children Lone (John), Henrik and their families, and many other relatives and friends in Denmark.

Grethe will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery and friends are invited to further share the day with Grethe's family at the Chetwynd Fellowship Baptist Church at 1:00 pm. Pastor Bill Evans will officiate.
