Chloe Warn

Obituary of Chloe Warn

Chloe McClarty-Warn, a resident of Lumby, BC formerly of Dawson Creek, BC passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 in Vernon, BC at the age of 94 years.

Chloe was born March 30, 1924 to Caroline Rebecca Walton Wartenbe and Claud Irl Wartenbe in Lone Prairie, BC. She was named Chloe Ruth after two of her mother’s great aunts. When she was 9 days old, her mother died and she went to live with her aunt and uncle.

Except for a three year visit to Missouri when she was 3 years old and an 18 month church mission to Los Angeles, Chloe lived all her life in the Groundbirch, Lone Prairie, East Pine, and Dawson Creek areas.  In her younger years, she and her friends liked dancing and would walk or ride horses from East Pine to Groundbirch to attend dances.

Chloe married Allan (Edward Allan) McClarty on May 1, 1942. They had five children over the course of 21 years and so ended up with their youngest children being not much older than their oldest grandchildren.

Chloe lived many years with no electricity and many more without running water. They always had a big garden and welcomed many people to their home. Chloe cooked thousands of meals for hundreds of people on her wood stove. She was always whipping up a meal for whoever was around.

Allan passed away in November 1991 and Chloe married Bill Warn on January 2, 1999. They had almost 5 years together before he too passed away.

After Bill passed away, Chloe continued to live in Rotary Village, Dawson Creek until after Christmas 2016 when she moved to Lumby, BC with her daughter.  She lived there until she went into hospital late January of this year. Chloe made many friends over the years and will be remembered by many.

Chloe’s faith and church attendance were vital to her and a part of her. Her quiet faith and dedication were an inspiration to many, even up to her final days in care.

Chloe is survived by her five children: Kay (Brent) Przybille, Lynne Radke, Wanda Robertson, Beth Wilson, and Ed (Mary Ann) McClarty; her fifteen grand children: Stephen, Tara, Loralie, Crystal, Wayne, Bonnie, Tina, Sean, Susan, Heather, Gavin, Ted, Vicki, Damian and Chenise; her twenty-four great grandchildren; and her five great great grandchildren.  She is also missed by many extended family members and friends.

A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in Dawson Creek, BC. Chloe was laid to rest in the Mountainview Cemetery at Groundbirch, BC following the service.  For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Chloe to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27 Avenue, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4 or at www.nohs.ca.
