Obituary of Wilbert Neuls

Wilbert Neuls, a long-time resident of Chetwynd, BC, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in Fort St. John, BC, at the age of 78 years.

Wilbert was born in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan to Fred and Clara Neuls. In 1943 his sister Diana (Neuls) Freeman joined the family. Wilbert new the hard times of growing up on a farm where everyone worked to make a living and often the only cash coming in was the cream cheque.

In 1956, the family moved to Little Prairie, BC (now known as Chetwynd) to make a better living.

Wilbert worked at many jobs.  He talked about digging holes, by hand, for the first power poles to bring electricity to the few houses and businesses in Little Prairie. He hauled gravel and sand to make a lot of the foundations for the housing developments in town, as well as hauling lumber and supplies to locals and out of town people.  In the winter, Wilbert worked in the bush running logging equipment and making roads and skid trails.

In 1983, Wilberts’ Father became ill and he took over the Canadian Freightways Agency to deliver freight to the town and the surrounding areas. 1992 took him to semi-retirement where he took up farming in the Prespatou/Buick Creek area.  He loved the land and the peace and quiet it brought.

In 2008, kidney failure began to take over his life, however, he carried on doing what he loved - like watching his family develop into the fine people they have become.  He was a proud Grandpa and encouraged all of his grandchildren in their many achievements.

Trips to the farm were a special time,  an open fire with hot dogs and beans at Ryan and Sheila’s acreage at Wildmare  Creek and attending church and functions at the ‘Church of the Nazarene’  in Chetwynd.  These were all so important to him.

In 2013’ he leased his farm land out and became a regular at the ‘Knowledge Network Table’ at the local A&W.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife; Frances, son; Ryan & wife (Sheila),  Grandson; Skyler, Granddaughters; Reagan and Sierra, Brother-In-law; Don Guillet, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
