Obituary of Jerry T. Weselak
Jerry T. Weselak 1918 - 2009
Jerry was born to Martin and Mary Annie Weselak (Nee Urzada) on July 31, 1918 in Gerald, Saskatchewan. He passed away July 13, 2009 just 18 days to his 91 birthday. Jerry attained School in Gerald, Saskatchewan until the age of 12. Jerry and his family moved to the Peace River country to Willowbrook district in 1930, now known as Bessborough, where he attended Willowbrook school until the age of 16 (1934).
Jerry worked on his dads and his older brothers and his own homesteads. In 1942 he joined the military and served in Sicily and Italy, and later in Belgium and Holland as a truck Driver. He returned home at the end of the war in 1945, after he was honorably discharged. He worked part time on the farm and operated caterpillar, brush cutters, and bulldozers, and seismic crews.
About 1950 Jerry met Muriel Wilford. Her parents and brother farmed just 10 miles from his own homestead. and were married on July 8, 1954. They made their home in Edmonton, Alberta where Jerry dug basements and did landscaping with his own equipment. Jerry retired about 1984. Although he made a living operating bulldozers, he enjoyed operating farm equipment and would often return to the farm to help out. Even in the later years he enjoyed a ride on the combine but due to ill health in the last two years he was not able to.
Jerry and Muriel had their 55th wedding anniversary recently. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, brother Jack and sister Margaret and brother in-law Henry Wilford.
Jerry is survived by his wife Muriel and brother, Emil and numerous cousins.
A Memorial Service was held in honor of Jerry on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Bergeron Funeral Chapel, Dawson Creek, British Columbia where the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 141 also honored Jerry for serving his country in the military.
