Obituary of Joan Price

Joan Price 1931 – 2009 Joan was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on February 28, 1931 and passed away July 17, 2009 in the Dawson Creek and District Hospital. Joan was very well known in Dawson Creek having worked 43 years in the Hardware Department of the Dawson Co-op. She was capable of fixing or repairing and finding parts for almost anything. In her "after” work time Joan was a long time member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, 50 years, helping at the legion bingos and catering. She also assisted in a Cub Pack (Scouts Canada) for several years. She always enjoyed spending time in her cabin at Hassler Flats, fishing and hunting. Joan loved woodworking, building cabinets and repairing things, however her greatest love was helping other people. She had numerous friends and they were her extended family. Joan was always the helper and had a hard time with being helped. She had many visitors while in the hospital. One of which was Molly, feeding her two meals a day since April. Kit Page moved in with Joan about 31 years ago. They were great for nicknames. Kit was "Barney” and Joan was "Fred” – derived from the Flintstones. Also Joan’s good friend Molly had the special nickname "Duffy” for her as well. Joan was a very private person and she never recognized her significance to others. Joan was predeceased by her mother and father Elsie and Harry; as well as her brothers Jack and Dennis. Left behind to mourn are her good friend Kit Page "Barney”, many nieces and nephews and lots of friends. A Graveside Service was held Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Dawson Creek Cemetery where family and friends gathered to honor Joan as she was interred into her father Howard’s grave.
