Obituary of Gertrude Prier
Gertrude Prier, better known as Gertie, resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, passed away peacefully in the Dawson Creek Hospital on November 3, 2014. She was 84 years old, and was born in Ardrossan, Alberta on December 4, 1929. Gertrude was the fifth child born to Howard and Jeanie Prier. From Ardrossan the family moved on to Valhalla and then settled in Coleman Creek, British Columbia in 1934.
Gertrude went to school in Coleman Creek, completed Grade 8, and babysat for the neighboring families until she moved to Dawson Creek. She worked at the Dawson Co-op for many years and took great pride in knowing and serving her customers with smiles and efficiency. She enjoyed music and loved to go dancing.
Gertrude leaves to mourn her sisters; Jean Doswell, Lilian Lovas (Jim Kwasnitza), brother Howard (Frances) Prier, sister-in-law Grace Prier, brother-in-law Art Mohr, and many nieces and nephews.
Gertrude was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Jeanie Prier, brothers Alvin and Edwin Prier, sisters Sarah Emslie and Ethel Mohr, nephews Dennis Mohr, Gordie Lovas, Wayne Prier, and Rockey Schultz.
Gertie’s family would like to express their gratitude to the 2nd floor nurses of the Dawson Creek & District Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Gertie.
A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00am at the Bergeron Funeral Chapel, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, officiated by Gerta Kut.
