Obituary of Alexander Kenneth Thom

Ken was born in Edmonton, Alberta on January 4, 1936. He had one brother, Lawrence, and one sister, Lois, and was the oldest of the three children. He loved to take walks twice a day and walked twelve blocks to the show every Saturday. Ken loved animals and had dogs and cats throughout his life. They kept him company while he sat outside checking out the clouds and listening to the weather on his radio. Ken was extremely interested in checking weather reports. He had a Siamese cat who layed on his chest while he watched TV at night. When he was younger, Ken spent time every summer at his Aunt and Uncle’s farm and was a really good Saskatoon picker. When his mother retired in 1970, he moved to Dawson Creek and lived with her until she passed away. He then lived with his sister for several years. When he reached his senior years, Ken moved into the assisted living home, first at Southview, then at Northview. This was the happiest time of his life. He had loads of friends and wonderful caregivers who could always make him laugh and helped him only when he needed it. Ken also had a beautiful apartment where he could be more independent and could make more decisions himself about his life. Ken loved the many activities the care home offered, especially when bands came to play. His favourite songs were Crystal Chandalier and Chatanooga Shoe Shine Boy. Ken also enjoyed singing hymns when Pastor Rob and members of Grandview Chapel came every month. Shane Franke, from SPCRS, and a caregiver, usually Lone, came every week and took Ken out for ice cream or pie for years, and members of the Catholic Church picked him up one a month for a service and lunch. He really loved these outings. Ken was a brave, friendly soul with a sense of humour and he will be sadly missed.
