Obituary of Betty Gagne

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Betty Laurien Gagne, a resident of Calgary, Alberta, on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the age of 92, surrounded by her family in the South Health Campus Hospital in Calgary, Alberta.

She is survived by her husband Herman Gagne; children Betty Anne (Layton) Scheck, Jacqueline (Garry) Stuckey, Gordon Gagne, Victor (Sheri) Gagne, Beverly (Ed) McArthur; grandchildren Lori, Tanya, Kristi (Craig), Kari (Curtis), Dustin (Ellie), Michael, Jayme, Jenna, Jessica (Joshua), John, Levi, and Crysta-Lyn; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Jean Way; niece Joan, nephew Arol; and extended family and friends. Betty was predeceased by her parents Jay and Annie (Hull) Robinson, step-father Yorkie Robinson, brother George (Corrine) Hull, and brother-in-law Wally Way.

She was very proud of her family and loved watching them grow up through pictures. Betty enjoyed spending time with family. She had a love for travel and managed to venture out to some amazing places well into her 80s. She loved the little things; tea with her ladies, bowling, playing games, helping at the thrift store, crocheting, and knitting. She was a member of the Anglican Church for many years.

Betty was born in Vancouver BC on December 19, 1927 to Annie and Jay Hull. She spent her younger years in Rolla before moving to Port Alberni BC, where she worked her first job as a Telephone Operator. She then became a stay at home mom to Bets, Jackie, and Gordon in Dawson Creek BC. There she met Herman Gagne, and they were married October 30, 1958. The family moved to Summit Lake BC and was completed with the arrival of Victor and Beverly. They moved and settled in Fort Nelson BC in 1962. Betty was career driven. She continued on with being a Telephone Operator and later ran a successful campground with Herman. They retired and moved to Grand Forks BC in 1989. Betty and Herman both moved to Calgary AB, in 2019 to be closer to family.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private family graveside service will be held at Rolla Cemetery, Rolla, British Columbia. For friends so wishing, donations in memory of Betty may be made by donation to the charity of your choice. Betty made donations to many different charities throughout the years.
