Obituary of James Kobasuik

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Jim" Edward Kobasuik, longtime resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in his home at the age of 81 years.

Jim was born on Monday, August 14, 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta to parents Stella and Edward Kobasiuk.

Jim was known to be a kind, loving, and gentle person, who didn’t want to be a burden to anyone. Jim’s life started in the army where he trained to be a Radio Technician, he later transitioned into a lifelong career with CN/Northwestel where he worked throughout the North until he retired. During this time, Jim was an avid hunter and snowmobiler, spending time on the trapline during the winter, and in the summer running his river boat where no one dared to go, he was known to read the river. Jim loved the river, the outdoors, and hunting.  Some of Jim’s later passions included: garage sales where he would search for items to give to others, playing in crib tournaments and winning trophies, and early morning coffees at A&W with friends.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life neither angels nor demons, neither the present, nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separated us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through him would be saved. John 3:16-17

Jim is survived by his special friend, Joy McNeely; former spouse and mother of his children, Carol Bowd (Lee); his children, Dean Kobasiuk (Christine), Laurel Kobasiuk, and Kimberly Kobasiuk-Hanlan; his grandchildren, Shaun Strom, Ariel Hanlan (Skyler), Ashley Hanlan, Austin Hanlan, Jett Vansdal, Bo Vansdal; great-grandchildren, Westin Prue and Saint Prue (Ariel); brothers, John Kobasiuk (Eunice), Don Kobasiuk (Heather); his sister, Sheila Decosta (Paul), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, life-long friend Don Pedersen (Pat), and his faithful and loyal dog Jake.

Jim was predeceased by his mother Stella Rietze, father Edward Kobasiuk, step-mother Hettie Kobasiuk, sister Doreen Nelson “Cookie Nelson”, and Sons Gregory E. Kobasiuk and Christopher Kobasiuk.

For friends so wishing, Donations in Jim's memory may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation (Centre for the North), 1215 Lethbridge Street, Prince George, British Columbia V2M 7E9.

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
