Duane Halliday

Obituary of Duane Halliday

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Duane Halliday, longtime resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at the age of  80 years.

Duane was born in 1940 in Sudbury, Ontario to Henry Wallace Halliday and Doris May Halliday (nee Kyle).  Duane’s early years were spent in Kingston, Ontario and trips to Wolfe Island were common.

Duane trained in the RCMP in Regina, Saskatchewan and he then was appointed positions in the NWT and BC. Duane spoke fondly of his time in the arctic and he had many tales from his time there.

In 1967, Duane went to PNG (Papua New Guinea) and served in the Police Constabulary.  In late 1967, Duane returned to Canada and got married. Once back in the NWT, he assisted with the development of inuit co-operatives.

In 1972, Duane and his family moved to the Peace region where he developed a family farm. Duane continued farming until 2017. Approximately a decade before, he had developed parkinson’s disease. He moved to Rotary Manor in 2018 and he died in 2020.

Duane is survived by his children, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchild.

In respect to Duane's request, there will not be a funeral service and a memorial service will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to donate to Rotary Manor (1121 90 Ave, Dawson Creek, BC V1G 5A3) and/ or Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca).

We (Duane’s family) would like to extend our appreciation for the wonderful staff at Rotary Manor, his other carers and those who have supported and helped him.

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
