Robbie was part of a sisterhood of ranch women who did their part in the pioneering and settlement of new agricultural land and in the development of communities. It was a time of hope and optimism, when people worked hard and dreamed big. Robbie and her neighbouring women would drop everything to come to the assistance of a member who needed to plan a wedding, put on a baby shower, help with a funeral or mark any other milestone. These women all worked so hard to grow gardens, look after stock, cook meals for any number of family and friends, sew, mend and wash clothes, drive farm machinery, raise children, sooth the frayed nerves of husbands upset about something or other not going right. In the early years, all this was accomplished with a lack of conveniences that would astonish a lot of people today. Somehow, after all the duties were tended to, Robbie found time to indulge in creative crafts and she was happy to share her skills and knowledge with any child or grandchild that wanted to learn. Robbie was a good friend to me, as she was to many others. She could be counted on for a sunny greeting, a good cup of coffee and a slice of something delicious. We shared a a few late nights and beverages with her and Fred that still make me smile. Life is for loving and living. I am left with the impression that Robbie extracted the best out of every moment given to her. Rest easy my friend.
