Sukrit Parmar

Obituary of Sukrit Parmar

Sukrit was born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India. She was the youngest of 6 children. Sukrit was conscious of being East Indian and was supportive of their culture, yet coupled it with being a proud Canadian.

On September 7, 1965 she married the love of her life, the boy next door, Mohinder Parmar. In 1967 they welcomed a son Vijay, and in 1972 welcomed another son Vinay. Even though she loved her boys, she loved and adored the 4 grandchildren they gave her.  She was proud of her 3 granddaughters Helena, Iris, Edie, and grandson Rayman.  Moh and Sukrit were married 53 years when Moh passed away in 2019.

Sukrit was a very hard worker and it showed in her schooling, as she was on the Honor Roll throughout her school years in India. Before coming to Canada in 1966 she received her Teaching Degree. Her dream was to teach in Canada, and that happened in 1967 when School District #59 hired her and she taught for 36 years in a variety of roles. Sukrit was a well-respected educator by colleagues, students, and parents. She was very passionate about her teaching and it showed in her students and the "love of learning" that she brought out in them.

Sukrit had a very big heart.  She sponsored many children through World Vision and initiated the Pouce Coupe Food Bank, sat on many committees, and was always trying to make life better for others.  She was also an entrepreneur of several businesses in both Dawson Creek and Pouce Coupe.  Sukrit was a great cook and opening her restaurant Curry Et Cetera was a lifelong dream. Sukrit had dreams and she had a way of making them come true for herself and others.

She loved gardening, traveling with friends and family, watching TV, Indian soaps. Sukrit loved life and those of us who knew her…loved her stories, her smile, her laughter, and her very presence.  Sukrit was a very special person who will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to be her friend or acquaintance.  Sukrit made our community and our world a better place by being in it.

A private family visitation and prayers will be held, and a livestream will be made available for family unable to attend. The link will be available on this page on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11:00am. For friends so wishing, donations in Sukrit's memory may be made to the Pouce Coupe Food Bank, 5002 - 49th Avenue, Pouce Coupe, V0C 2C0.
