Obituary of Emily Jeannotte

On June 26 our mom, grandma, great grandma, aunt and a dear friend to many left us at the age of 86. Born November 26, 1934, in Collinton Alberta, Emily Irene Erdely was the youngest child of five. She had a brother Johnny, sister Hettie and twin sisters (who tragically passed away at nine months). A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker she always made everyone feel welcome and you never left the house without having a meal, a cup of tea or coffee served with one of her famous homemade baked goods.

Summer and fall were her favourite time of year as it was a time for gardening, planting of flowers, camping, picking wild berries preserving of fruits and vegetables, pickling and making all sorts of jams, jellies, and relishes. As kids, coming home from school meant hearing country music playing on the radio, with the ever present smell of baking bread and the pleasant sight of cinnamon buns and other dessert items spread out on brown paper all over the counters.  She would be more than happy to give her recipe to anyone that asked and the end result it was never like hers. The joke was she left out in an ingredient or two. On short notice she would make a full course meal which she made look so easy and effortless.

She was proud of her sons and daughter of who they became and what they accomplished. Mom and dad made frequent trips to Victoria to help the sons when they could. Mom had a tremendous work ethic, had incredible integrity and was the pillar of the family. She always said you treat people like you want to be treated. Her grandchildren Nathan, Alicia, Kole and Braeden were very important to her. She always wanted the best for them as she knew it was difficult for young kids making their start in life. She adored her great granddaughters Amy and Carrie and would glowingly brag at the seniors complex how cute and mischievous they were. She enjoyed Carrie’s ballet performance and of course she was the shining star in her eyes.

In September 2020 mom decided to move into a seniors complex in Clairmont as she was unable to maintain the house and yard. Once settled in, she was enjoying her new worry-free life in her apartment. She made new friends quickly and often mentioned her regular long walks with her walking partner. In mid April she was having more serious health issues. The progression of pain became unbearable as well as the other previous underlying health complications. Her frail and weak body couldn’t fight it anymore. She spent the last remaining time with her loving family by her side. She has now been reunited with her husband Harry, brother Johnny, sister Hettie, her twin sisters as well as her parents John and Johanna Erdely.
Emily will be sadly missed by her children Cindy (Louis), Byron, Randy (Karen) Laine (Diana); grandchildren Nathan (Tina) Alicia (Iian), Kole, Braeden, and great granddaughters Carrie and Amy. Emily will be sadly missed by her good and dear friend Doris Moore, and the many new friends she met while staying at her new apartment in Clairmont.

The family would also like to thank all those in attendance to celebrate the life of a such a wonderful person.

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
