Obituary of Allan Potratz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our dad Allan Potratz, resident of Dawson Creek, BC in the early hours of September 27, 2021 at the age of 80 years.

Left behind are his 2 daughters:  Christine (Cory) and Connie (Neil), 2 Sons:  Jamie (Daylene) and Rob (Linnea) along with his 3 grandchildren:  Jena, Alysha, and Tanner.  Predeceased by our mother Dianna, his parents Walter and Lucy, sisters Viola and Lena, brothers Gordon, Harold, Ernie, and Ralph.

Born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan and raised in Zealandia, Saskatchewan, he was the youngest of 7 children.

In 1960 at the age of 20 years old he came to Gordondale, Alberta to homestead, he worked hard running cat, road building, logging, and cutting brush for wages which went into his homestead.  He met our lovely mother Dianna Nadeau in 1964 and they were married July 16, 1965.  They lived on the homestead in a small house trailer and started our family.  Mom and Dad worked hard together to build our home where we grew up.  Times were tough but we were a happy family with what we had.

Dad along with Mom worked very hard farming for many years until the passing of our Mother in June of 2017.  He bought a house in Dawson Creek, BC in the spring of 2018 and sold the family farm in the spring of 2019 as he could not continue farming on his own anymore. In the spring of 2021, we moved him into Heritage Heights senior’s apartment where he lived until his passing.  He met some wonderful people at the apartment and enjoyed their visits this summer.  He would watch out his window and when they all would gather outside around the big beautiful tree out front he would go out and join them and sit and chat.  He would bring his John Deere pictures out to show them as he was very proud of his tractors.  He was also very proud of his brother Ralph’s guitar playing and singing, he would play his brothers CDs in his apartment and sit and enjoy them and play them for his home support nurses that came for his daily care.  There was one nurse that would dance with him to his brother Ralph’s music which he talked about for months later.

Our dad will be greatly missed by his family and his few friends he made along the way.

We would like to thank the caring and amazing Home Support team in Dawson Creek for their kindness and all their help with dad’s care.

He will be cremated, and his final resting place will be in the Spirit River Cemetery along with our mom.

A private family graveside gathering will be held at a later date.

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
