Obituary of Hattie Soucy

Hattie left us suddenly at the age of 77 on October 1, 2021 in her hometown of Dawson Creek, BC. Hattie was born to Michael and Hattie Kasprow on January 15, 1944, along side her twin sister Katie. Hattie had 5 siblings, Victoria, Barbara, Katie, Edward and Johnny and was raised on their family farm in Belloy, AB. At 16 Hattie and Katie had moved to Dawson Creek where they worked as waitresses to send money home to help with the farm. She always stated how much she loved being raised on the farm where she learned the labors and reaping of farming. It was there where she learned to cook, bake, crochet and grow in her faith with God. Later on she met her husband, Ben Soucy. On September 2, 1968 they welcomed their daughter Brenda Lee. On October 25, 1974 she was blessed with a second daughter Nicole-Lynn. Sadly, her marriage to Ben ended.

Hattie worked as a waitress over the years, enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, and baking and showing off her talents to many. To this day we still do not know if people came to visit us or mom’s cooking. No one ever left hungry! Our door was always open to all. Her favorite color was red, so we showered her with everything in red. Hattie always had a love for music as it bounced off our walls continually over the years. Entertaining always gave her joy and a road trip was always welcomed.

She later on developed a friendly addiction to bingo, whom she shared with family and friends. In her later years she indulged in her word puzzles in her alone time. Having such love for plants, she took great pride in her Christmas cactus, which bloomed every year.

She was blessed with grandchildren, Dillon, Jordan, Preston and Phoenix, Haney. She was blessed with a son-in-law, Darren (Nicole) Robinson. She spent her last years with her life partner Ray Blain. She will be missed, and our lives will never be the same. Rest in Peace Mom. Its not goodbye, just goodbye for a while.

Hattie was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Hattie Kasprow, brother Edward and Johnny, nieces Elaine, Dorothy, Debbie, daughter Nicole Lynn Soucy, and life partner Ray. Hattie is survived by her daughter Brenda Lee, son-in-law Darren Robinson, grandchildren Dillon Chase Haney, Jordan Riley Haney, Preston Reid Haney, Phoenix Jaxson Haney, and sisters Katie, Barbara, Victoria and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and home support workers for all the care of our mom during her time of need.

Our biggest thank you is to our family friend Ann Sluggett. Her kindness, thoughtfulness and ongoing support has been beyond measure. Her care for our mother over all these years have been extremely appreciated.

There will be no service for Hattie at this time.

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
