Obituary of Doreen Carlson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen Carlson, resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the age of 91 years.

Doreen Lois Carlson was born on July 12, 1930, in Arras, British Columbia, to Louis and Leta Jerome.  Being the oldest of six children, she grew up looking after her younger siblings, Bob, Veryle, Joyce, Eva, and Eileen.

On November 4, 1949, Doreen married her one true love, Don Carlson.  They spent 67 years together as husband and wife raising 3 children, Ivan, Marlene, and Ross.  Don and Doreen farmed a mile from where she was born.  They had a wonderful life together, going to as many music festivals and rodeos as possible.  The highlight of the year was always the music jamboree at Sunny Brook Meadows.  Many friends and family came to enjoy a weekend of good music, games and laughs. They also enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors as often as they could.

Doreen loved to cook and entertain.  Growing up she always had Sunday dinner with many extra guests at the dinner table and always had a dessert to share with any company that stopped by.

Doreen loved her flowers, both indoors and out.  She especially loved and was proud of her orchids. The birds always had to be fed, especially the hummingbirds.  Through the years she did many beautiful cross stitch pictures that family members now proudly hang in their homes.

Don and Doreen loved to dance and won many old time dance trophies.  They also took up bowling and golf after retiring.  The farm was sold in 1999 (all except one quarter that the kids still have and two of them along with their families built homes there 11 years ago) and they moved into the Evergreen condos, their first brand new home.

Doreen was predeceased by her loving husband Don Carlson in 2017; her parents Louis and Leta Jerome; parents in-laws Gus and Ada Carlson; sisters in-law Helen Carlson, Agnes Carlson, brothers in-law Ray and Eric Carlson, Jim Marshall, Bert Lillico, John Marcinowski and Chad Clay; and nephew Gary Lillico.

Doreen was survived by her children Ivan (Debbie) Carlson, Marlene (Barry) Erickson, and Ross (Joanne) Carlson; grandchildren Cindy and Mike Fisher, Rhonda and Lon Hingley, Jason and Sam Johnson, KC and Kayla Carlson, Jon Carlson, Megan and Tyler Palinkas; great grandchildren Tyler (Alyssa Linsley) Fisher, Scott (Katie Buck) Fisher, Reece, Anson and Rowan Hingley, Kristen Dryer, and Jayden Johnson, Khloe Carlson  Kylie Carlson and Gibson Palinkas; siblings Bob and Pearl Jerome, Joyce Clay, Veryle Lillico, Eva and Glen Bassett and Eileen Marcinowski; brother in-law Stan Carlson (Marge Brewster) and sister in-law Bernice Marshall; as well as many extended friends and family.

Doreen was placed in the Unity urn with her loving husband Don at the Dawson Creek Columbarium.
