Obituary of Abe Sandnes

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Albert "Abe" Gustav Sandnes, a resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Thursday, January 27th, 2022, at the age of 89 years.

Abe was born in North Rolla, British Columbia, on April 24, 1932. He was the youngest son of Ted and Ingebjorg Sandnes and brother to Carl (who passed in 2006) and Ingebjorg Mills.

During Abe’s life and career, he had been a farmer, truck driver, carpenters’ helper, stores person, lab technician, bulk station attendant, fuel loading dock operator, fuel delivery driver, beverage delivery driver and school bus driver. He was especially proud of his career at the Taylor refinery where he retired after almost 30 years of service.

Some of Abe’s hobbies included outdoor activities like boating, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling, as well as swimming, scuba diving and curling. Abe enjoyed doing mechanical, welding and carpentry projects. In addition to building his own home, he helped build his son’s 3 homes over the years, with many renovations along the way.

Abe and Vi built their home and acreage east of Dawson Creek and operated a hobby farm where they lived until 2017. They then moved into the Chapel Hill facility in Dawson Creek. Abe especially enjoyed the social visits around the campfires and barbeque, coffee shop visits, chasing the garage sale circuit and spending time with his grandchildren.

Abe will be missed by his beloved wife of 58 years Violet (Vi) Sandnes; sons Darren (Jacqueline) and Michael (Kristen); daughter Sjann Johnson; grandchildren Tyler, Dillon, Sydney, Aaron, Taylor, and Lincoln; great-grandchildren Connor and Dawson; sister Ingeborg Mills; and nephew Marvin.

Abe is predeceased by his parents Ted and Ingeborg Sandnes; brother Carl; and niece Yvonne.

In respect to Abe’s wishes, no service will be held at this time.

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium
