Obituary of Melvin Jacobsen
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Melvin Jacobsen, resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Melvin passed away in the Dawson Creek Hospital after a brief illness, on Friday, February 25, 2022, at the age of 77 years.
Melvin was born on November 28, 1944, in the Grande Prairie Hospital, the youngest of 4 siblings born to father Neils and mother Sara, who were among the first hardy group of people to settle in Wanham, Alberta. They owned the only café in town and later the ESSO station Jacobsen’s Service.
Melvin ate his share of Sara’s Danish pastry, pumped his share of gasoline, and filled many a propane bottle between games of cribbage with friends and customers. BS flowed while pegs danced around the board on the lunch counter at the Service Station.
Saturday night was hockey night, and the Maple Leafs were the team to watch.
Melvin was predeceased by his father Neils in 1971 and mother Sara in 1973; brother Carlo in 1969, brother Arnie in 2001 and sister Lillian in 2005.
He is survived by sister in-law Faye of Spirit River; Carlo’s children Shel, Carla, Michael, Jim, Chuck, and Carmen; Lillian’s children Trevor and Denine.
With respect to Melvin’s wishes, no formal service will be held. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
Melvin will be laid to rest in the family plot along side his parents at the Wanham Cemetery.
Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
