Obituary of Rowena Letendre

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Rowena Letendre, a resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the age of 63 years.

Rowena was born to Roy and Madeline in Beaverlodge, Alberta on October 18, 1958.  She was the oldest of 8 children and grew up in Kelly Lake, British Columbia untill 1977 when they moved to Pouce Coupe, BC.

Rowena had her first child in 1975, a daughter she named Darlene, her second was a son born in 1977 named Leonard.  Leonard was born with Cystic Fibrosis which required that the family make frequent trips to Vancouver.  She loved him so much and did her best to keep up with his health.

Rowena lived in Pouce Coupe but wanted to broaden her horizons and moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta where she lived for many years and worked as a bartender.  She was very well known and very well liked.  She had a rputation for being a tough lady that never took crap from anyone or anything for that matter…which leads to my first story.

When Rowena lived in Kelly Lake, she was watching the kids one night when she heard rustling on the porch.  When she looked outside it turned out to be a black bear.  Rowena, with no fear, grabbed the broom to swat it away.

Rowena met Gordon Badger and they were married.  Sadly, Gordon passed a short time later.  Rowena moved back to Dawson Creek for a while, then to Chetwynd, then back to Grande Prairie again, I guess she was a bit of a gypsy.

She moved back to Pouce Coupe after her mom passed away in 2010 to help take care of her dad.

Rowena’s family was most important to her.  She loved her family very much.  She had a very close relationship with sister Rose, and her daughter Darlene.

Rowena will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, the friends she visited daily, her neighbors and her family.

Rowena moved into an apartment in Dawson Creek that she enjoyed very much.  When she was introduced to Facebook, one of her first posts was “mmm that was very good” with a picture of an empty plate.  That one got a lot of laughs.  She was known for her funny videos and pictures of her food on Facebook.  She got lots of comments and likes for them.

The staff and other tenants remember her fondly, everyone that got to know her and her cat will miss them both.

Her mobility became an issue the past few months.  She was fortunate to be gifted a scooter.  She was so happy and proud of her new wheels, as she loved her independence and this gave her the ability to get around.  She loved where she lived and she was very happy.

Rowena leaves to mourn her daughter Darlene, her brothers Roland, Allen, Bradley and Evert and sister Rose as well as many extended family and friends too numerous to mention.

Rowena was predeceased by her son Leonard, parents Roy and Madeline and her brothers Dale and Carl.

We Love You!!  See you on the other side…
