Obituary of Doris Holloway

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doris Elizabeth Frances Holloway, a longtime resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at the age of 84 years.

Doris was born on Wednesday, June 30, 1937, in McMahon, Saskatchewan, to Jacob and Lena Backer. She was the sixth of eleven children. When Doris was three, she moved with her family to Northmark, Alberta. There she lived on a farm but preferred indoor chores to farm work. Doris attended elementary school in Northmark and high school in Woking, Alberta. After high school, Doris attended business school at St. Joseph Business College in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

In 1958, Doris married Laurence Holloway and they moved to Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Their son, Darrel, was born in 1961. Seven years later, in 1968, Doris, Laurence, and Darrel moved to Whiterock, British Columbia. There they built the house she lived in until she moved back to Dawson Creek about ten years ago to be closer to family.

While in Whiterock, Doris started working as a resident care aide at Evergreen Baptist Care Society. She later worked at Peace Arch Hospital, where she stayed until retiring at the age of 65 years. Doris was active in her union and served on the local executive council.

In her free time, Doris enjoyed gardening and curling. Both Doris, and her husband Laurence, were HAM Radio enthusiasts. She always had an open door and a hot meal for any family that visited. Doris loved spending time with her nephews and nieces and being involved in family gatherings.

Doris is predeceased by her husband Laurence; son Darrel; parents Jacob and Lena; brothers Henry, John, Harvey, and Jim; and sisters Genevieve, Mary, and Shirley.

Doris is lovingly remembered by her siblings Eleanor (Cyril) Holloway, Evelyn (John) Kurys, and Fred (Sandra) Backer, along with many nieces and nephews.

With respect to Doris' wishes no service will be held at this time.

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
