Obituary of Joe Furtenbacher

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph John Furtenbacher, long-time resident of Chetwynd, British Columbia, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the age of 87 years.  Joe passed away peacefully at the Chetwynd Hospital after a brief and courageous challenge with lung cancer.

 

Joseph was born on Wednesday, September 26, 1934, in Woodstock Ontario to John and Agnes Furtenbacher (nee Frank).  He attended Ryerson Polytechnical institute and worked for Canadian National Telecommunications throughout his career.

 

Joe met the love of his life, Laurene Simpson, and they were married on May 2, 1980.  Joe and Rene moved to Chetwynd, British Columbia in 1993. They greatly enjoyed all the birds and wildlife on their rural property. Joe enjoyed golf with his “dinosaur clubs”. He was also an avid and skilled photographer, a hunter, and belonged to many bowling leagues over the years. He enjoyed tending his plants and caring for his beloved dogs.

 

Joe was predeceased by his loving wife Laurene on December 26, 2019; his stepson Daniel Simpson; and granddaughter Zoe.

 

Joe was the loving father of Mary Ann Kuiack, Joseph Furtenbacher, Judith Furtenbacher (Bob Horvath) and Roberta Bond (David); loving stepfather of Deborah Simpson, Daniel Simpson (deceased) and Laurie Simpson (Tye Hoover); beloved grandfather of Eric (Taryn), Mark, Steven, Laura (Matthew), Anna (Michael), Isaac (Janien), Thomas, and Natalie, Clifton (Tatyana), Quinleigh (Rueben), Micah, Chloe, Ellie, Zoë (deceased), Georgie and Tavian; much loved step-grandfather to Tarah (Brian), Sadie (Garret), Jonathan, Kyle (Beverly), Zak (Ashley), Michael and Connor.

 

Cremation has taken place, and Joe and Rene will be interred in Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Joe to the Chetwynd Hospital Foundation, Box 121, Chetwynd, BC, V0C 1J0 in appreciation for their excellent care of Joe throughout the years, and in his final days.

 

A Memorial Service for Joe will take place at the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery, on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 1:00pm.
