Obituary of Gladwyn Walsh
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gladwyn Louise Walsh, a resident of Bonanza, Alberta, on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the age of 85 years.
Gladwyn was born in Monarch, Alberta on Thursday, August 13, 1936. She was the second child of Clayton Anton Moen and Edna Thorine (Dahlen) Moen. Growing up she lived in Spirit River, Alberta; Rolla, British Columbia; and then Dawson Creek, British Columbia, where her mom and dad owned the Grandview Store and then the East End Grocery Store.
She met and fell in love with Owen (Ted) Edward Walsh. They were married Wednesday, June 22, 1955. They welcomed their first daughter in 1956 and then moved to Kelowna, British Columbia, where they would welcome their second daughter in 1958 and their son in 1959. Ted worked for CP Transport, and they decided to move to Kamloops, British Columbia in 1962, where they resided until Ted’s passing in 1972. Mom then moved back to Kelowna to be closer to family.
In 2004 mom decided to move back north where she lived in Bonanza, Alberta. She took pride in her gardening and loved sitting by the campfire with family and neighbours, occasionally belting out a song or two. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan and even had a room just for Elvis memorabilia. Her radiant smile will be sadly missed by everyone.
Gladwyn was predeceased by her husband Ted; daughter Robyn Hinko; sisters Marilyn Deluerme and Laverne Schneider; and brother Richard Moen.
She is survived by her daughter Sheryl (Mickey) McKay; son Laurel Walsh, son in-law Mike Hinko; six grandchildren Ted (Mandy) McKay, Rob (Amanda) McKay, Tammy (Ryan) Singer, Rikki (Tony) Hamoline, Terence (Tracy) Hinko, Owen (Shauna) Walsh; 14 great-grandchildren Emilly (Damian) Bainbridge, Bailey (Riley) McKay, Allana (Carter) Auger, Madison Mckay, Mikaela McKay, Emily (Adam) McKay, Dane Singer, Shaye Singer, Tripp Singer, Joshua Hamoline, Lauren Hamoline, Raquel Hinko, Paisley Walsh, Julia Walsh; 4 great-great-grandchildren Sawyer Bainbridge, Freya Bainbridge, Natalie Cameron, Lainey Cameron; sister Judy (Jim) Marr; brother Rod (Donna) Moen; brother-in-law Lionel Deluerme; and sister-in-law Dell Moen.
A Celebration of Life for Gladwyn will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at 2:00pm in the Cotillion Hall, Cotillion, Alberta. She will be laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery, Kamloops, British Columbia later this summer.
