Obituary of Patrick William Warn

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick William Warn, a lifelong resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the age of 71 years. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 1:00pm, at the Groundbirch Hall Interment will follow in the Groundirch Cemetery. Pauline Haycock will officiate.  Friends are invited to further share this day with Patrick's family in the Groundbirch Hall following the interment for refreshments.

On November 3, 1950, Patrick William Warn was born in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. He lived in Groundbirch, British Columbia, for approximately four years on his dad’s homestead before moving to Dawson Creek. He took an agricultural course, planning his life for after graduation in 1968. Pat started working at Northwest WoodsMill, advancing to BC Forestry where he went from a dispatcher to an assistant ranger. He bought a quarter section of land in Groundbirch and started his dream.

He did not want to take a transfer with BC Forestry, so he started working at many miscellaneous jobs. Some of which included a logging company hand scaling timber for their mill, helping his dad with trapping and guiding, operating a CAT at different jobs, working at a weigh scale for a mill in Fort Nelson, gas well testing production sites,

and setting up steel grain bins. All this work helped him to buy more land and equipment.

In 1972, he lived on the homestead in a one bedroom cabin with no water or power in Groundbirch. He bought a two bedroom house to be moved and set up at the farm. Along the way, he built a workshop and a small barn with power and water. Pat advanced to mixed farming and cattle ranching, mostly working from home. He helped and was helped by neighbors. Pat’s ability to accomplish his goals is an inspiration to all of us. His hard work and determination proves that anyone can have a dream and make it a reality.
