Obituary of Eileen Hansen

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen Hansen, a longtime resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the age of 86 years.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Eileen to the Dawson Creek Seniors Hall, 1101 McKellar Ave, Dawson Creek, BC, V1G 2S2.

Eileen Mae Hansen was born on Feb. 6, 1936, in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, to Winnie and Bill Hopkins. Bill was in the military. Winnie stayed at home and raised her 5 busy children.

Eileen met her loving husband Eric in Salmon Arm and were married Nov. 15, 1955. They had 6 children. In 1967 Eric and Eileen purchased 5 1/2 sections of land and moved their family to Dawson Creek, British Columbia. In 1979 while still farming they also started a construction company. Life was busy with the farm, construction company and 5 children. Eileen had her prize cows. She was not the least bit afraid of getting her hands dirty and pulling calves all hours of the night.

Eileen loved having Sunday dinners at the farm with all her children, spouses and grandchildren, which she adored. The cards usually came out as well. She was an avid card, bingo, crib player and loved bowling. Eileen was always happy to volunteer and was always available to help others anytime.

Eileen lost Eric June 1, 2010. She stayed on the farm for awhile but eventually sold and moved to Dawson Creek, British Columbia.

Eileen fought lung cancer in May 2017 at The Kordyban Lodge in Prince George, British Columbia, but succumbed to it again and passed away quickly and peacefully Nov. 9, 2022, at the age of 86 years.

Eileen will be missed dearly by her loving children, Lorne Hansen, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Linda (John) Sutherland, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Wayne Hansen, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Betty (Myron) Hendriks, Cochrane, Alberta, Lorraine (Alfy) Michetti, Pouce Coupe, British Columbia; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
