We will miss Ian in our family a lot he was great to our boys. Ken especially like him and was one of his very special teachers I will miss Ian myself as he was always so friendly and when he said hello to me he always said hello Carol which just sounded really nice coming from him with a smile

I taught with Ian for 13 years at Central Junior High where the average age of staff was about 24. Amongst the young enthusiastic staff Ian was a rock; quiet, thoughtful, committed; qualities that colleagues and students recognized and appreciated. He will be sorely missed.

So sad to hear if Ian’s passing..my heart felt condolences to his family & friends.
Years ago, I was applying to be a substitute teacher & Ian invited me to teach a class for my requirements. As my passion was drama, I did up a lesson plan and had a wonderful time in his class.
I still have the original letter he wrote to the SD, in support of my application.
I also knew Ian on a very personal level and I can say that he was a lovely man, an amazing husband and a teacher I always looked up to...

Very saddened to hear of Ian's passing. My sincere condolences to Sheila and her sons for their loss. I had the privilege of having Mr. Welsh as a teacher, and will be forever grateful for the experience of getting to know him, both in the classroom and outside. A man of integrity, compassion and a genuine interest in improving the lives of his students. Without question, one of my favourite teachers!

I had the privilege of teaching with Ian for 13 years at Central Junior High. Those were very good years where the average age of staff was around 24. In the midst of that young, enthusiastic group. Ian was a rock. His quiet manner and confidence were both helpful and refreshing. I looked to him for wisdom and guidance. He will be greatly missed.

Ian, Mr Welsh to me was my P.E. teacher in high school. That was in the early seventies and the governor general at the time introduced a medal program for fitness. Ian coached me to a gold medal, I will never forget him. We always visited in the grocery stores over the years. I have fond memories of Mr. Welsh, my condolences to the family and prayers for comfort.

Mr.Welsh was always one of my favourite teachers, he had a patience about him that never made you feel stupid for needing things repeated a time or two and if you got him talking about the right topic you could chat half a class away.

I am deeply saddened at the loss of Ian which you experience, Sheila, as well as the boys. Ian
was a wonderful husband, father and friend. I enjoyed many years at Central School in the gym
and other activities. He was respectful, patient, and fun, encouraging students, who respected
him as well. He was active in the efforts to get soccer going in the community and set a good

I’m so sorry to hear of Mr. Welch’s passing. Even though I had the privilege of teaching with Ian, he will always be Mr. Welch to me and one of my favourite and most respected teachers. (And my volleyball coach, did he ever have his work cut out there.) Ian is one of the reasons I became a teacher. My goal was to be as caring as Ian and as diligent as he was for his students. When I was a beginning teacher and going back to the school every night to prep, usually the only other teachers there preparing were the Master Teachers, Ian and Sheila. Ian has been a positive influence to hundreds, thousands, of students over the years. We’ll miss you Mr Welch.
