Obituary of Marion Ruberta Neste

Marion Ruberta Neste

1936 - 2023

On March 18, 2023, Marion Ruberta Neste, our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home. She was 86.

Marion was born in Dawson Creek, July 25, 1936, to Robert and Noreen Sekyer where she grew up in a very close and loving family of nine brothers and sisters.

On September 6, 1955 she married her lifetime sweetheart and soul mate Claire Neste, who was the love of her life. They had a wonderful sixty-two years together until Claire passed away on July 5, 2017.

They raised four children, Janet (Mike Fraser), Brad (Wanda Anderson), Barry (Sheila Crane) and Judi (Keelin Jackson). As the family grew, they welcomed four grandchildren, Kaillah (Chad Peterson), Brody (Kaela Hanna), Keenan, Mikaylee (Devlin Baldwin) and five great grandchildren Kylo and Kade Peterson, Peyton and Huxlee Fraser, and Hylee Baldwin.

Her unconditional love and unwavering support for her family was always present. Her “can do attitude” laced with ever present humor and ability to laugh at herself gave all present the chance to experience happiness and laughter with her. She created a warm and loving home that included continual family gatherings centered on her talent for preparing the greatest meals and baking in the world!

Her inner strength so perfectly and silently displayed, was very encouraging and infectious. No challenge in life, whether hers, or family, was ever met with a “surrender” attitude.  She believed and displayed with every cell in her body - that it was only a matter of not giving up and believing in oneself - which one could overcome whatever adversities life presented.  Her victory of beating cancer - not once, but three times - was testament to this!

Her love and strength were present until the end. We will forever celebrate the incredible fortune that she was our mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She taught us the importance of loving family and to live life with courage. We will miss her immensely.  Her unconditional love and the incredible life she shared will forever be with us. Bye for now…until we meet again.

She preceded the passing of her sisters, Bernice Shearer, Vivian Halverson, Donna Price and brothers George, Sid and Bobby. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and siblings, Gary, Audrey Cowger and Loretta Olynyk.

The family wishes to thank the amazing caregivers that gave such wonderful attention and love to Mom in her final years. We would also like to thank Dr. Ulrike Meyers and the palliative care nurses for their support.

At Marion’s request, there will no service held. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society at https://cancer.ca/en/
