Obituary of Brenda Lou Jabs

The following are Brenda's thoughts written in her own words. I gave my heart to the Lord in 1982 and although life has had a few heartaches, I have had many blessings. I wouldn't trade all the riches or lands or houses in the world for the three wonderful children that the Lord gave me. Jasen, my firstborn. Jasen grew up way too fast and moved to Edmonton. I loved the alone times we had when he would pick me up. The serious talks and laughter meant so much to me. Great memory builders. Then came Tyler, the one in the middle. You know what they say about the middle child. No? Well if you take two pieces of bread and put them together, it is kinda dry. BUT if you stack lots in between those two pieces of bread it is so delicious and you want to go back for more! Well Tyler definitely was that and more. He made me so proud when he got his electrical but he has lots of talents. Then came Shantal. Who wouldn't be beaming to finally get a baby girl? With each one you love them all differently but with Shantal she outshone anything that I could do. We had lots of interests the same but she became the better cook, mind you my kids say that my main spice was pepper. Then came the grandchildren. The rules you have as a parent get thrown out the window when you become a grandma. I learnt that my grandsons - Ryley, Heath, Christian, Kaden, Matthew, Jacob were just boys and couldn't do much wrong. If the parents would just leave us alone life would be so much easier. But just as Shantal was my little princess I was blessed with my one and only little princess, my granddaughter Haley. I had the best mom and dad and grew up with four brothers and one sister. In later years Daryl and I developed a close bond and spent hours discussing what life was all about. Ron and Rick are twins and if I needed a listening ear I went to Rick. He was never stuck for words or how to solve the issues going on in the world. He kept me laughing with his comments that only he could think of. Ron was always so busy but at the end of the day when things slowed down Ron would usually call just to see how I was doing. Thinking of Ron …. I was trying to save some money before getting someone to reside my house. Ron told me to start at the back corner of my house and just tap the stucco and break off small pieces at a time. I got up on the top of the ladder and began doing as he said. I had to cut the wire under the stucco and all of a sudden everything let loose and I went flying. The whole side of the house came down right to the front corner of the house. My legs were all twisted in between the ladder that I had borrowed from my neighbour, John Bestward. Daryl came with his backhoe to clean it all up and then Ron came later to take the rest of the stucco off the house. I told Ron that what I could do in five minutes took him all day. Then there was my twin brother Brian and I. He went home to be with the Lord in 1985. I remember the day he got married and I did not want to share my twin brother. I cried and cried but the Lord bottled up my tears and I inherited the best sister-in-law I could have asked for. Throughout the years Sandi and I have remained best of friends. Last of all there was Cheryl. She loved her dogs and horses. I was scared of both. She rented a horse and I was sitting on behind her, no saddle. I didn't have a clue how to ride so I was hanging on to her tightly around the waist and ended up pulling her and I off and both landing on the ground. The horse took off running and of course it wasn't me that was going to go chase it. After all it was her that rented the horse. We all have a lot of acquaintances in life but we have some pretty special close friends. I think of Pastor Harold and Angie Ferguson, Louise Tremblay, Louise Christensen, Marlene Vivone, Iona Lindstrom, John Bestward, Lynda Boyd, and many others that I have worked with, all my church family, school friends and a long time friend Leaf. Brenda Jabs, a long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in Dawson Creek at the age of 61 years. Brenda is survived by her children; Jasen (Char), Tyler (Elaina), Shantal (Brice), grandchildren; Ryley, Haley, Heath, Abby, Christian, Kaden, Matthew and Jacob, her mother Shirley, brothers; Ron, Ricky, Daryl, and her sister Cheryl. Brenda was predeceased by her father Otto and her twin brother Brian. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at 1:00 pm at the Bethel Pentecostal Church, Dawson Creek, B.C. Reverend Gordon Warriner officiated. Interment followed in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.
